Although a phenomenon within Asia, it was distinctively niche in the west. In December last year, mere months away from their year anniversary, news broke that year-old Jonghyun had died by suicide. Taemin, the youngest, but with the most ambition; Key with the special and unique charms; and Minho, who always fulfilled his role perfectly within the overall performances — it was a joy to work on their music. When I write for these guys, I try to think of it as a science-fiction project. I think they were at a phase in their careers when they knew they had something special and really wanted to prove themselves. Their metamorphosis, which had included controversially sexy teasers that shocked Shawols accustomed to seeing their idols as boyish or, at most, slightly outlandish, was timely — a new generation of idols, including labelmates EXO, were arriving to steal old crowns. In late April, the question hanging over whether SHINee would continue as a group was answered as they emerged united for their 10th anniversary with a trilogy of episodic EPs called The Story of Light. Rather, SHINee make it nimble and airy, an elegant display of strength and the tying together of old sounds and new.

Hello was one of my first kpop songs so this holds nostalgic value for me, but honestly I really do think this is an awesome track. It's my absolute favorite cute boy group song, and always makes me smile. It's just too sweet not to, imo :heartbeat:. Every time you say to yourself, "wow, this is their peak", they reinvent themselves for their next project and deliver a style straight from the kpop gods. Every song on the album stands out to me, but Feel Good has that sort of laid-back, sexy vibe going on that I hella appreciate. I especially love Minho's rap, it suits the song so well. Like the act of calling out someone- "because of you, nothing is the same. I honestly don't dislike anything about this song. I always play this song when I'm looking to have a good time.
K-Pop reviews and discussion with just a hint of bias…
For me, Shinee has been one of the most consistently strong groups in all of kpop. As much as I love their music, it was surprisingly hard to rank my favorite singles. In short, there was a lot to choose from. It was 1, Years vs Fire in the battle of the Japanese ballads, and 1, just barely edged out as the victor. A schizophrenic beast of a song, with its blistering dubstep breakdown and intense choreography. At times, its sheer cacophony threatens to derail it, but that singalong chorus always brings it back. The group has rarely sounded as loose and funky as they did with this underrated single from last year.
